Sport Stacking
- gives children the opportunity to use both sides of their body and brain which helps to develop motor skills and improve bilateral proficiency;
- improves patterning, sequencing, focus, and concentration;
- promotes hand-eye coordination and ambidexterity, which are important skills in any sport;
- encourages children to set goals through establishing personal records;
- reinforces persistence, perseverance and practice as the way to improve those records;
- reinforces the values of cooperation and teamwork.
Fitness
Sport stacking is a fitness based sport that children from all backgrounds and abilities can do. Regardless of whether you are instructing Preschoolers or High school students, Sport Stacking can be a great enhancement for your fitness routine. With over 70 fitness based activities, Sport Stacking helps to motivate children to be active and fit. Teachers and parents also like Sport Stacking because it can be done at home.
Self-Esteem
One of the comments we receive consistently from teachers, parents and school administrators is how Sport Stacking levels the playing field for their children. Non-Athletic children can now compete head to head with their more athletic counterparts. This significantly raises their self-esteem, motivating them to work harder in PE and be excited to participate. “Sport Stackers” never give up as they fix their mistakes and always finish what they start.
Academic Learning
Today schools, teachers and parents are focused more than ever on academic development. Sport Stacking promotes physical activity which enhances academic learning. Students that sport stack on a regular basis have shown increases in test scores and levels of concentration. This is achieved by students using their right and left hemispheres of the brain. When children take part in Sport Stacking they are developing new connections in their brains which help to spur brain growth which in turn promotes greater academic development.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE FUN!
IMPROVED HAND-EYE COORDINATION AND REACTION TIME
“Significant improvements were noted for both hand-eye coordination and reaction time in both dominant and non-dominant hand…Therefore, Sport Stacking is indeed effective at enhancing hand-eye coordination and reaction time.”
“The Influence of Sport Stacking on Hand-Eye Coordination and Reaction Time of Second-Grade Students” published in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, Dr Steven Murray (Dept. of Human Performance and Wellness, Mesa State College) and Dr. Brian Udermann (Dept. of Exercise and Sport Science, University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse).
RIGHT AND LEFT BRAIN ACTIVATION
In a recent study, Dr. Melanie Hart empirically examined the electrical activity of the two hemispheres of the brain, as measured by an electroencephalogram (EFG), while Sport Stacking.
“The results of this study support the claim that Sport Stacking does utilize both sides of the brain.”
Dr Melanie Hart, Assistant Professor of Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences at Texas Tech University.
BILATERAL COORDINATION
“We found that Sport Stacking has a positive effect on the development of bilateral coordination in sixth-grade physical education students.”
Chris K. Rhea and Associates study to track the influence of Sport Stacking on psychomotor parameters.
FITNESS
“Sport Stacking has an energy expenditure of 2.9 METs,\ and it is similar to other activities involved in typical physical education courses (e.g., weight lifting light to moderate, archery, bowling, volleyball, walking 2.5 mph).”
Dr. Steven Murray (Mesa State College) and Dr. Brian Udermann (University of Wisconsin – Lacrosse) from their research study measuring the energy expenditure of Sport Stacking.
