The World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) has announced three rule changes to Sport Stacking that became effective at the 2010 WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships. Rule changes will significantly reduce the need for video revue at all levels of competition and pave the way for even faster times.

WSSA Executive Director, Bob Fox had this to say :

“More and more stackers around the world are getting so fast that the human eye simply can’t see what their hands are doing. These changes will allow stackers the freedom to go faster without worrying about unintended scratches, and allow judges to make confident decisions on the spot based on what they can realistically see. It all adds up to a very exciting step forward for Sport Stacking !”

Sport Stacking is an exciting individual and team sport where participants stack and unstack 12 specially designed plastic cups in pre-determined sequence. The three competitive Stacks are the 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and The Cycle.

The most important thing to do when Sport Stacking is to use BOTH hands. That doesn’t mean picking up a cup with one hand and passing it to the other to set cups in place. Each cup should be handled by only one hand. Use both hands to stack but never on the same cup.

When you use both hands, you’re using both sides of your brain and promoting right brain development which houses things like awareness, focus, creativity and rhythm. Sport stacking helps these skills too! Get a set of Speed Stacks and try it out!

Tips and Tricks

If you are just beginning Sport Stacking, start on the floor with your Speed Stacks placed directly in front of you.

Always keep stacks close together to create a solid base for your pyramid. In fact, let your cups touch in your pyramid.

Use a light touch, don’t be heavy-handed. Lift with a light grip. Try not to squeeze the cup; let gravity do the work.

If you lead with your right hand (if it feels best to use your right hand first) that hand should pick up the top cup.

Alternate your lead hand. Practice leading with one hand and then the other. Switch to increase ambidexterity.

When handling the cups, your hands should be positioned on the sides of the cups, never over the tops of the cups.

Separate the cups from one another using your fingers, resting the last (or bottom) cup on your pinky finger.

Stack in a circle – which means, use a circular motion with your hands and arms instead of back and forth.

Never pass a cup from one hand to another. Use both hands at the same time.

Want More Tips?

Anatomy of a cup

The world’s fastest stackers use Speed Stacks gear. They know the best cup equals the best performance. Here’s what sets Speed Stacks cups apart:

Special Shoulder

The special shoulder with ribs gives just the right separation between cups. When seated on top of the other they simply don’t stick. One cup can be picked up off another leaving that cup behind; one cup can be dropped out of a set of cups from the bottom simply by releasing the finger holding it.

Reinforced Lip

The reinforced lip of the cup is just the right size, not too pronounced, with a smooth, clean finish.

As a parent, you want the best for your child, both academically and physically. You want your child to be active after school, watch less TV and play fewer video games.

Traditional sports programmes are a good alternative but they can be expensive and are usually not available year round. And maybe your child doesn’t like traditional sports! We understand! Children of all ages, abilities and personalities love Sport Stacking because it’s fun, challenging and easy to get started with. It can be done indoors or outdoors, in a living room or kitchen. Teachers love Sport Stacking because it motivates children to be more active and fit. Parents love sport stacking because it‘s affordable and isn’t hard to get children excited. Sport Stacking puts the “Have a Go” spirit into children.

For as little as $ 27.95 you can buy your child something that benefits their body, brain and spirit! By participating in a Group Order through your school, you get the lowest prices on Speed Stacks gear and not only will your child benefit, but your school P.E program will also. Speed Stacks donates 10% of your order directly back to your school in the form of equipment to help strengthen their P.E Sport Stacking program. Get involved today and make a difference!

What is this Cup Craze?

Your son or daughter is scouring the cupboards for matching cups of any shape or size. Next thing you know, they’re stacking them in pyramids, then trying to unstack them at an unusually high rate of speed. You discover they are Sport Stacking with Speed Stacks in school, on camp or at a friend’s house. And you scratch your head and say “They are doing what?”

Or maybe you’re the parent of a veteran stacker and want to find the latest in stacking news and events. One thing is for sure either way: Children LOVE Sport Stacking! You’ve come to the right place to get your questions about Sport Stacking answered.

Sport Stacking levels the playing field! It includes those children who don’t normally get excited about P.E but still challenges those who are athletically gifted.

We all know the importance of physical activity in brain development and the effect it has on a child’s learning. Sport Stacking is an exciting activity which promotes brain activity, improves motor skills, co-ordination, as well as meeting standards for quality Physical Education. Children love Sport Stacking because it’s easy to learn, “hands on” and fun.

If you are a Principal, Physical Education Teacher/Instructor or other administrator overseeing the physical education needs of your school, you know the demands and challenges teachers face. It is harder today than ever to balance the requirements of academics while providing your students with a well rounded education. Speed Stacks Australia provides affordable products, lesson plans and activities for a truly innovative way of promoting Physical Education both in school and at home!
